Coccygodynia:The coccyx is the last bone of the vertebral column, which is connected to the bone before it, the sacrum, and is composed of 4 smaller bones. Trauma or injury to this bone, such as falling with the buttocks or difficult childbirth, and small but continuous traumas over time, such as riding a bicycle or sitting for long periods in obese people, can cause damage to the sacrococcygeal ligament (the ligament connecting the two coccyx and sacrum bones). Or arthrosis in the mentioned joint and cause pain.
The pain appears mostly when sitting, and the patient may not feel pain when walking.
Diagnosis: Physical examination and disease history are given. Usually, a reliable finding is not seen in the radiology image.
treatment: - Anti-inflammatory drugs
- Using special pillows to reduce pressure on the injured joint
- Physiotherapy modalities
- Manipulation (manipulation) or insertion through the anus may be helpful in some cases.
Interventional treatments (interventional pain management) including steroid injection in the injured joint and finally impar ganglion block under the fluoroscope guide by steroid injection or using radio frequency (RF) waves.
- In very severe cases that do not respond to any of the above treatments, removal of the coccyx may be considered with the help of surgery.
