(adhesive capsulitis) or (frozen shoulder):
It is a disease with an unknown cause in which the capsule of the shoulder joint decreases in flexibility and as a result decreases the range of motion. Usually, this decrease is accompanied by severe shoulder pain. The disease has three stages: 1. Onset of shoulder pain with progressive decrease in range of motion lasting between 1 and 3 months.
2. In this stage, which lasts between 3 and 9 months, the reduction of movements and freezing of the joint reaches its peak, but the pain will not change much.
3. It will take between 9 and 15 months and gradually the pain and frostbite will decrease.
This disease is more common in women between the ages of 40 and 60. It also occurs more among diabetic patients, heart, stroke and especially after immobilization of the shoulder following fractures.
Diagnosis : It is given based on physical examinations. It is not seen in imaging findings such as shoulder graph or any special point.
Treatment: 1. Anti-inflammatory drugs as well as drugs from other groups such as tricyclics (nortriptyline) or anticonvulsants (gabapentin)
2. Using physiotherapy modalities
3. Doing special exercises. It should be noted that immobilizing the shoulder in this disease worsens the situation.
4. Interventional treatments (interventional pain management): First of all, intra-articular steroid injection is effective in reducing pain and shortening the course of the disease. If the pain is not controlled, it is possible to control the pain with suprascapular nerve block with steroid injection or by using radiofrequency nerve ablation and prepare the patient to participate in physical therapy sessions.
5. Surgical treatments may also be part of the treatment in resistant patients.
